Kolkata: At least 2 people, including a 12-year-old boy, died in a fire that broke out last night in an 8-storey residential building in Kolkata, where about 50 families live.
A metre box installed in the ground floor of the building at Ganesh Chandra Avenue caught the fire, and spread to the building.
The 12-year-old boy had jumped off from the first floor in panic and died.
“The boy had jumped off the first floor of the building out of panic. The body of an old woman was also recovered from a flat in the building”, said an official.
At least 10 fire tenders and a hydraulic ladder were in action to rescue those inside the building and to put out the fire.
“All the residents have been rescued. The fire is also under control. Presently cooling off is being done”, PTI quoted Bengal Fire Services Minister, Sujit Bose.
However, smoke was seen coming out from the building even this morning though the fire was put out.2
