Kanpur: India have given a 284-run target to the visitors New Zealand after declaring their second innings at 234/7 in the first Test at the Green Park Stadium here on Sunday.
From being 51/5 in 19.4 overs, India managed to prolong their stay in the middle and increase the lead riding on a brilliant recovery show by Shreyas Iyer, Wriddhiman Saha, Ravichandran Ashwin and Axar Patel.
At the close of play on Day Four, Ravichandran Ashwin claimed the wicket of Will Young as New Zealand went into stumps with 4/1 in four overs.
With just the fifth day left in the Test, New Zealand are now faced with an uphill task of scoring 280 runs with nine wickets in hand to take 1-0 lead.
