Dubai: On Sunday, history was made in Dubai when two Super Overs were required for the first time in an IPL match to identify a winner.
Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) won against defending champions Mumbai Indians (MI) in the end.
After MI stopped at 176 for 6 in 20 overs, KXP managed an identical score of 176/6.
Jasprit Bumrah restricted Kings XI to 5/2 in the first super over. Then, Mohammad Shami bowled an over to stop MI at 5 runs.
In the second super over, MI scored 11 for 1. 12 runs required to win, Chris Gayle and Mayank Agarwal smashed Trent Boult all around the stadium to fetch Kings XI Punjab a victory.
This was the first time that both matches were tied and went for super overs.
