New Delhi: The commercial flight resumption — scheduled for December 15 — is likely to be postponed. The authorities are thinking of pressing the brakes in light of the emergence of the new Covid variant Omicron.
Indian airports are already implementing a series of restrictions on incoming passengers, particularly from “at risk” nations.
“In view of the merging global scenario… the situation is being watched closely in consultation with all stakeholders and an appropriate decision indicating the effective date of resumption of scheduled commercial international passenger services shall be notified in due course,” a note from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation read on Wednesday.
Omicron made an entry as the devastating effects of the second wave, powered by the Delta variant, were subsiding.
It may be recalled that the government had on November 26 declared the resumption of scheduled international commercial flights from December 15.
