Melbourne: Former Australian captain Ian Chappell believes it’s important to include all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin in the playing XI for strengthening the middle order and adds the Tamil Nadu cricketer can be an asset on any kind of track in the world.
Ashwin unfortunately did not get to play a single Test against England which drew flak from several quarters. According to Chappell, Ashwin’s induction will also add versatility to the Indian bowling attack which can eye 20 wickets in the five-day format.
The Aussie great while giving the example of another former Australian captain, Herbie Collins, says, “He reckoned the most important aspect of selection was finding the right combination.” Chappell feels that the right combination for India’s middle order would be Rishabh Pant, Ravindra Jadeja, Hardik Pandya and Ravichandran Ashwin.
ANI quotes him saying, “Tweaking the Indian middle order to accommodate the skills of Ashwin should be the priority for the selectors. It’s a scary thought for the other test sides that Virat Kohli’s highly successful team can be improved.”
