Mumbai: Senior Congress leader Madhavsinh Solanki, who served as former Chief Minister of Gujarat, passed away on Saturday morning. Madhavsinh Solanki died at the age of 94. Madhavsinh Solanki had also served as the former External Affairs Minister.
Madhavsinh Solanki is known came to power in Gujarat in 1980s on the KHAM (Kshatriya, Harijan, Adivasi, Muslim) formula. Before the 1980 election in Gujarat, Madhavsinh Solanki stitched the KHAM alliance to shift the power balance.
In 1981 Madhavsinh Solanki became the Chief Minister of Gujarat. As the Gujarat chief minister, Madhavsinh Solanki introduced the reservation for socially and economically backward classes.
