Mumbai: The Maharashtra government has suspended ex-Mumbai Police Commissioner and current Commandant-General, State Home Guards, Param Bir Singh, on Thursday evening.
An IPS 1988 batch officer, Singh, has been declared a ‘Proclaimed Offender’ by a Mumbai court last month. It was prompted by a probe report submitted by Additional Chief Secretary Debashish Chakravarti to the state government.
The report had recommended action against the former Mumbai top cop for defying the All India Civil Service Rules after he became “untraceable” for nearly six months and reappeared in Mumbai a last Thursday.
Singh is facing several extortion and corruption cases lodged in Mumbai and Thane. The cases are both bailable and non-bailable arrest warrants. He is also facing the government-appointed retired Justice KU Chandiwal Commission of Enquiry.
