Tokyo: Table Tennis star Bhavina Patel from India is just one shot away from bagging the gold after reaching the women’s singles finals at the ongoing Tokyo Paralympics. The bespectacled Bhavina beat Chiness Zhang Mao 3-2 in the semis to raise India’s hopes of a gold.
Bhavina had earlier scripted history by being the first Indian TT player to enter the semis at the Paralympics.
“I’ve proved nothing is impossible,” Bhavina was quoted by ANI after the contest. And she added, “I’ve never considered myself as a disabled person. Today, I’ve proved that nothing is impossible.”
Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulating Bhavina, tweeted, “Congratulations Bhavina Patel! You played excellently. The entire nation is praying for your success and will be cheering for you tomorrow. Give your best and play without any pressure. Your accomplishments inspire the entire nation.”
“Bhavina performed beautifully. Super proud! This will be the first medal for India in Table Tennis, in Paralympics and country’s first medal in Tokyo Paralympics. Congratulations to her, I’m very happy. Women are creating history,” said president of the Paralympic Committee of India, Deepa Malik.
Now, Bhavina carries the dreams of billions of people starved of glory at the zenith at the highest level of the sport.
