Morbi: BJP Rajkot Parliamentarian Mohan Kundariya said on Monday that 12 of his relatives were killed in the horrific bridge collapse in Gujarat’s Morbi town on Sunday.
Kundariya’s relatives had been to the picnic spot when the tragedy struck, the MP said.
Over 130 people lost their lives after the bridge collapsed on the Machchhu River last evening, police said.
According to Kundariya, there were 5 children among 12 victims of his family. Besides, there were four women and three men. All were close relatives of the MP’s elder brother. He said strict action will be taken against those responsible for the tragedy.
“Four daughters of the brother-in-law of my elder brother, the husbands of three of them and five children were killed in the accident,” Kundariya was quoted as saying by NDTV.
“They belonged to different villages in Tankara taluka and were settled in Morbi,” he said.
“As it was Sunday, they had gone to the picnic spot where the tragedy occurred. I reached there half-an-hour after the incident took place and have been at the spot since yesterday, helping in the rescue work,” NDTV quoted the MP as saying.
“So many people have been killed. We will take strict action against those responsible for the incident,” he added.
