Mumbai: Birthday girl Kajol is versatile and despite a section of critics unmoved by her array of work, there is no denying she has it in her to justify the most unthinkable of characters – what if these three critically acclaimed movies had Kajol in the lead? Check it out…
Guddi: Hrishikesh Mukherjee’s take on an obsessed movie buff essayed by Jaya Bhaduri catapulted her to the league of powerhouse performers. Over the years, remakes have been in fashion in Bollywood. Though it might be too late to have Kajol stepping into Bhaduri’s shoes because of the age factor, but she would have been the ideal choice in the remake quite a few years ago. Perhaps, had Kajol been born in the late or mid-’60s, Hrishida would have chosen her. With her affable nature both on and off the screen, Kajol would have pulled it off with utmost grace.
Seeta Aur Geeta: We have had a remake of the Ramesh Sippy- directorial in the Sridevi-starrer Chaalbaaz, but later down the line, if one had thought of a replication, then Kajol would have been the first choice for the double roles that Hema Malini played. Be it the no-nonsense girl or her frightened twin sister, the Bengali actress would have set the screen on fire and Sippy would have been laughing his way to the bank.
Aastha: Rekha was unbeatable as the middle-class wife forced into prostitution to run the house in this family drama helmed by Basu Bhattacharya. A remade version (and there’s still hope for it) featuring Kajol would be the apt casting. The capricious nature of the character would be portrayed to the hilt by Kajol whose acumen as an actress hasn’t been tapped to the fullest by now.
