Hathras: After the gangrape and death of a Dalit woman that incited nationwide outrage, the Yogi Adityanath-led government on Thursday night transferred six IAS officers and appointed Navneet Sehgal as the new Additional Chief Secretary of the Information Department.
Sehgal, who is one of the most well-known IAS officers in the state, had earlier served as the principal secretary of Information during the Samajwadi Party’s tenure.
According to the transfer list, Principal Secretary to Chief Minister, Sanjay Prasad, has been given additional charge of the information department. Additional Chief Secretary of Social Welfare Manoj Kumar Singh has been sent to the Horticulture Department. Principal Secretary (Horticulture) Babu Lal Meena has been given additional charges of Social Welfare. Besides this, Saroj Kumar has been made MD Purvanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam and special secretary (Technical education).
Yesterday, Hathras District Magistrate Praveen Kumar Laxkar was caught on camera issuing a veiled threat to family members of the rape victim.
“Half of the media people have left today, the other half will leave by tomorrow. Only we will stand with you. It is up to you whether you want to change your statement or not,” DM Laxkar was heard telling the victim’s father in the video.
Sharing the video, Congress’ Surjewala had said, “Listen to what the DM of Hathras told the girl’s father. ‘The media is here today, they will leave tomorrow. They will all go away. Listen to the government.’ Shame. Is this a threat or not?”
