New Delhi: The mother of the 19 year old Dalit girl said she can’t forget two visuals, one is her attempt to cover her daughter’s naked body with saree, and the other being unable to lift her semi-conscious daughter.
“Until then, I didn’t even know the word, rape (in English). Today, I am having to prove that my daughter was raped”, the mother told after the Uttar Pradesh Police allowed the media to visit Bul Garhi village on Saturday.
It was around 9 am she realized that her daughter wasn’t responding her calls.
She thought that her daughter had returned home, but then she found one of her slippers by the side of the road.
“That meant she was around, but something was wrong, I couldn’t spot her other chappal”, she remembered.
She went into the maize fields after that. “I found the fields trampled and sensed that my daughter was in the fields”.
Around 20 metres away, she found her daughter with her churni around her neck.
“She was almost unconscious. Her lower clothes were thrown aside and she was bleeding from her private parts…”. She added that the chin and tongue were also bleeding, and the eyes were bloodshot.
“My first instinct was to cover her lower body with my saree, but I couldn’t”, she cried out.
The victim’s brother recalled what had happened in the police station. “My mother was with my sister and I wrote whatever I knew. My mother didn’t have the heart to tell me that my sister was raped”.
They got her admitted in Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College and Hospital in Aligarh after realizing her condition getting worse.
“When I was alone, she hesitatingly told me about four men raping her” the mother claimed her daughter named the four men when she regained her consciousness on September 17.
Two days after she was transferred to Safdarjung Hospital, the girl took her last breathe on September 29.
The body was taken back to her village in Hathras.
“The police agreed that we would get to cremate her at 6am, but suddenly they went ahead and cremated her at 2.30am itself”, the brother claimed.
