New Delhi: The heatwave continued in the national capital New Delhi as it recorded its second hottest April in the last 72 years with an average maximum temperature of 40.2 degrees with other parts of the country also faring no better. The furnace-like temperatures have led to lengthy power cuts too.
The capital city recorded 43.5 degrees Celsius on Thursday (April 28) and Friday (April 29). This was the highest maximum temperature on a day in the month of April in 12 years.
Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) had issued an orange alert for five states of northwestern India — Rajasthan, Delhi, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Odisha.
