Kolkata: Leader of Opposition in the West Bengal Assembly and the man who sprang up a surprise by triumphing over chief minister Mamata Banerjee in Nandigram, Suvendu Adhikari is firmly of the view that the ruling party will pull no punches and give it everything to ensure a victory for the CM in the Bhabanipur Assembly bypoll. It is a must for Banerjee to win the seat to continue at the helm in the state.
“We have to fight the administration, police, mafias and money power (in the Bhabanipur Assembly bypolls). Mamata Banerjee lost in Nandigram. If 60-65% voting happens, then ‘daughter of Bengal’ Priyanka Tibrewal will emerge victorious,” said Adhikari to news agency ANI.
Bhabanipur goes to polls on September 30 and both the TMC and the BJP are leaving no stones unturned to make the contest count. The West Bengal CM has already filed her nomination while her rival, firebrand lawyer and BJP candidate Tibrewal will do so today. The Congress has not fielded anyone to take on Banerjee but its ally CPI (M) has nominated Srijib Biswas to lock horns with Banerjee and Tibrewal.
Though the odds are weighed heavily in favour of the CM, Tibrewal is in no mood to give up till the last ball is bowled. The general perception of a one-sided contest has now turned into a high octane one as the two sides trade barbs to make electoral capital.
