Mumbai: India registered an emphatic 372-run victory against the current World Test champions New Zealand at the Wankhede Stadium here on Monday. By virtue of the victory, India reclaimed the top position in the ICC Test rankings.
The victory at the Wankhede Stadium also meant India’s 14th consecutive series win at home and 11th successive under Virat Kohli’s leadership.
India bagged 12 points by virtue of the win and climbed to No. 1 position in the World Test Championship 2021/23 standings. India now have 124 points, ahead of New Zealand’s rating points of 121.
Australia, set to begin the Ashes campaign on December 8, are placed third with 108 points, and England are in the fourth position with a point behind Australia.
The other teams are Pakistan (92), South Africa (88), Sri Lanka (83), West Indies (75), Bangladesh (49), and Zimbabwe (31).
Earlier, India notched up the victory in just 43 minutes. Needing 540 runs to win, New Zealand (140/5 overnight) were bundled out for 167 in 56.3 overs on the fourth day morning. This is India’s biggest victory ever by run margin.
Jayant Yadav scalped four of the five on Monday while R Ashwin bagged the all-important wicket of Henry Nicholls (44).
