Kanpur: Riding Shubman Gill and debutant Shreyas Iyer gritty knocks, India scored 258 for four at close on Day 1 of the first Test against New Zealand at the Green Park Stadium here on Thursday.
Shreyas Iyer was batting on 75 with Ravindra Jadeja on the other end at 50 at stumps.
Opting to bat, Gill and number 3 Cheteshwar Pujara stitched a 61-run second-wicket partnership Mayank Agarwal fell cheaply (13).
It was in the afternoon session that India lost three wickets before debutant Iyer and Jadeja held for. They share an unfinished 113-run stand to take India past the 250-mark.
Kyle Jamieson was the pick of the New Zealand bowlers snaring three wickets, while his colleague Tim Southee claimed one wicket.
