Offie Ravichandran Ashwin snared three wickets conceding 27 runs after New Zealand left-arm spinner Ajaz Patel claimed 14-225 in the match, the best figures by a bowler against India.
Earlier, India declared their second innings at 276 for seven in 70 overs just ahead of tea on the third day, setting the Black Caps a target of 540.
