Kanpur: Tim Southee’s incisive morning spell that fetched him five wickets helped New Zealand restrict India to 345 and put up a decent 129 for no loss at close of Day 2 of the first Test at the Green Park Stadium here on Friday.
New Zealand openers Will Young (75 batting off 180 balls) and Tom Latham (50 batting off 165 balls) dominated India on the second day.
Resuming at the overnight score of 258 for four, India were skittled out for 345 with Southee (5/69) claiming his 13th fifer. The only highlight for India was Shreyas Iyer’s (105 off 171 balls) debut hundred. Iyer became the 16th Indian to hit a ton on debut.
