Kanpur: Despite taking the upper hand, India had to to be content with a draw against New Zealand after bad light stopped play on Day 5 of the First Test at the Green Park Stadium here on Monday.
Two tailenders, Rachin Ravindra and Ajaz Patel, stayed rooted to the crease till the close of proceedings.
Ravindra Jadeja was the pick of the bowlers for India returning figures of 4/40 while Ravichandran Ashwin claimed three wickets.
Tom Latham top-scored for the Kiwis with 52. The opener stitched a 76-run partnership with William Somerville (36) for the second wicket.
However, Ashwin added another feat to his name as he went past veteran offie Harbhajan Singh to be India’s third-highest wicket-taker in Tests. Ashwin now has 419 scalps in 80 Tests. Anil Kumble leads that Indian pack with 619 wickets, followed by Kapil Dev’s 434 wickets.
