Mumbai: India coasted to 221 for four against New Zealand at the close of a curtailed opening day of the second Test at the Wankhede Stadium here on Friday.
At stumps on Day 1, Mayank Agarwal and Wriddhiman Saha were at the crease on 120 and 25, respectively.
Earlier, the entire first session was lost due to a wet outfield caused by overnight rain.
India opted to bat first on winning the toss. Openers Agarwal and Shubman Gill (44) stitched together 80 runs for the first wicket before Gill was sent home by Ajaz Patel.
The out-of-form Cheteshwar Pujara and skipper Kohli were dismissed in quick succession by the Mumbai-born left-arm spinner. Patel returned impressive figures of 4 for 73.
Brief Scores: India 221/4 in 70 overs (Mayank Agarwal 120 batting, Shubman Gill 44; Ajaz Patel 4/73) vs New Zealand.
