New Delhi: India has taken a firm stand on the ongoing turmoil in Afghanistan. The Taliban with tacit support from its like-minded associates have spread their wings in the country with control over several provincial capitals in the battle-torn country.
Civilians’ lives are at stake and mass murder of innocent souls are rampant.
Peaceful negotiations with the extremist group have failed to yield results as they are bent on stamping their authority all over the country.
At this juncture, the Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Arindam Bagchi has come out with an appeal for an immediate and comprehensive ceasefire.
“It is of concern. It is a rapidly evolving situation. We continue to hope that there will be an immediate and comprehensive ceasefire. We are supporting all peace initiatives of Afghanistan. Primary concern is peace & stability in that country,” MEA Spokesperson Bagchi was quoted as saying by news agency ANI via a tweet.
“On the (question of) discussions with the Taliban, we are in touch with all stakeholders, various stakeholders. I would not like to say anything further,” Bagchi added.
