Dubai: Chennai Super Kings answered their critics back in style with a dominant 10-wicket win over Kings XI Punjab in Dubai, on Sunday.
Shane Watson (83*) and Faf Du Plessis (87*) struck fluent half-centuries to help the former champions clinch an emphatic victory, chasing down the 178/4 set by Punjab with 2.2 overs to spare.
Batting first, Kings XI Punjab skipper KL Rahul continued his good form with a stylish 63 off 52 balls to push his team to a competitive total.
In the first match of the day, Mumbai Indians recorded a 34-run victory over Sunrisers Hyderabad in Sharjah. Mumbai Indians posted 208/5 riding on 67 runs from Quinton de Kock. Hardik Pandya (28) , Kieron Pollard (25*) and Krunal Pandya (20*) added the innings an impetus towards the end as Mumbai ended their innings on a high.
Sunrisers, in response started off strongly despite losing Jonny Bairstow (25), with skipper David Warner (60) and Manish Pandey (30). But there was little support fr the middle order as they eventually ended 34 runs of the total.
Brief scores: Mumbai Indians 208/5 ( de Kock 67, Kishan 31; Sharma 2/41) beat Sunrisers Hyderabad 174/7 (Warner 60, Pandey 30; Boult 2/28) by 34 runs.
Chennai Super Kings 181/0 (Watson 83*, Du Plessis 87*;) beat Kings XI Punjab 178/4 (Rahul 63, Agarwal 26; Thakur 2/39) by 10 wickets.
