Abu Dhabi: Mumbai Indians recorded a sound 48-run victory over Kings XI Punjab in Abu Dhabi on Thursday.

Batting first, Rohit Sharma led the way with a fantastic 70-run knock off 45 balls with eight fours and three sixes. He was joined by Kieron Pollard, who smashed a quickfire 47 off 20 balls to propel Mumbai to 197/4.

The Mumbai bowlers responded in style removing the dangerous Mayank Agarwal (25), Karun Nair and KL Rahul (17) within the first 10 overs. Nicholas Pooran waged a lone battle with 44 runs off 27 balls but it was in vain as they eventually were restricted to 143/8. Jasprit Bumrah (2/18), James Pattinson (2/28) and Rahul Chahar (2/26) were the stars for Mumbai with the ball.

Brief scores: Mumbai Indians 197/4 (Sharma 70, Pollard 47*; Cottrell 1/20) beat Kings XI Punjab 143/8 (Pooran 44, Agarwal 25; Bumrah 2/18) by 48 runs.
