Mumbai: The rising numbers of Covid-19 cases within the IPL bio bubble, and after an SRH player testing positive, the Indian Premier League 14 has been suspended for the time being.
According to the schedule, SRH were scheduled to play Mumbai Indians in Delhi on Tuesday, which has been suspended indefinitely.
The 14th season of the IPL was underway in India. However, the calls to postpone or cancel the cash-rich league have had gone louder amid the massive spike in COVID-19 cases across the country.
Chennai Super Kings informed the BCCI that on a day the two of its non-playing members, including a coach, tested Covid-19 positive, that they won’t play their next match against Rajasthan Royals in New Delhi on Wednesday.
On Tuesday, a petition was also filed in the Bombay High Court that sought direction to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to cancel or postpone the tournament amid the massive surge in Covid-19 cases.
The plea, which will be heard by the Bombay High Court on Thursday, said that the resources deployed for IPL players can be used for the treatment of COVID-19 patients in the country.
