Kolkata: His unconventional voice stands out in the crowd. Not the quintessential style to boast, singer Kailash Kher has charted his own course. The man behind a number of successful numbers was in Kolkata on Thursday for the launch of Nammo Durge, retail chain SNV Shoppee’s Durga Puja theme song which he has lent his voice to. Interacting with the media at the JW Marriott Hotel, Kher took questions on an array of subjects.
On the Tokyo Olympics theme song, Yeh Hai Badalta Bharat: The song was not just dedicated to the Indian contingent but also to all the frontline warriors of Covid-19 who sacrificed their lives for the country.
On Nammo Durge: This is a very sweet song dedicated to Maa Durga. SNV Shoppee has established itself not only in Bengal but also in several other states. As soon as I got to know that they were planning to make a spiritual song and especially on Maa Durga, it was a Yes from my office.
On his last visit to Bengal: I performed in Darjeeling in February in 2019 just before Covid wreaked mayhem. It was quite a pleasant experience as ever.
On the Kailash Kher Foundation: By God’s grace we have been able to support a lot of people in dire straits during these trying times. We have been sending heath, ration and medical kits. We are a pan-India organisation which works with compassion. The foundation has its branches in Uttarakhand, Rajasthan, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra and Mumbai where I stay. We have been fortunate to involve some eminenent personalities from various fields as part of our pursuit to care for the ones in despair.
