Dubai: After losing the match to Kings XI Punjab, Kieron Pollard from Mumbai Indians attended the post-match press conference instead of Rohit Sharma on Sunday.
When he was asked about Rohit’s absence he informed that “he was not feeling well,” so he was asked to speak on his behalf.
Pollard said, “I was told that he’s (Rohit) not feeling well and come and do the duties for you guys and have a conversation and we’ll see what happens. I am not sure what’s the outcome of it,” was quoted as saying by NDTVSports.
The commentator, Nicholas joked that “we wouldn’t blame if he simply couldn’t face it after all”. To this, Pollard replied and said “No it’s not about not facing. He is a fighter”.
Pollard was at his best during the regulation play and scored 12-ball unbeaten 34, but he wasn’t sent to bat in the super-over instead, Rohit and Quinton de Kock went to the ground.
The two openers failed to hit a single boundary after Muhammad Shami threw yorkers on them and took the game into another Super Over as their score was restricted to 5/1.
During the conference, the West-Indies all-rounder Pollard said that it was the team management which decided who will bat and when.
“Obviously there are decision-makers to make the decision, you know we can look at those things and say that’s where we lost the game but we played a very good game of cricket,” said Pollard.
In the next Super Over, when Pollard finally came to bat, he smashed a four and gave his team a total of 12 runs to defend. However, Chris Gayle from the Punjab team hit a six on the first ball whereas Mayank Agarwal also struck back-to-back boundaries with only two balls to spare.
After losing this match Mumbai Indians failed to topple Delhi Capitals from the top of the points table. On Friday, they will be playing against Chennai Super Kings (CSK).
