Kolkata: The Kolkata Port Trust which was renamed as Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port (SMP) unveiled a new logo which will go along with the new name, on Saturday.

On the occasion of 150th year of celebration, Port Chairman Vinit Kumar launched the new logo during the closing ceremony which was held at Belur Math which is the headquarters of the Ramakrishna Math and Mission.

The SMP, in a statement, said, “The graphic shows a sailing vessel to indicate the age and two shades of blue, a colour that signifies the oceans to establish the logo as that of a port,” as quoted by Times Now.

Kumar said, “The graphic in its entirety communicates a smart and contemporary image of Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port, Kolkata mirroring its modern infrastructure and dynamic service ethos.”

In January, Prime Minister Narendra Modi renamed the Kolkata Port Trust after Shyama Prasad Mukherjee who was the founder of Jan Sangh. He was also a jurist, thinker and an academician.

The closing ceremony of the port was celebrated in a low-key manner and very few people were invited keeping the COVID-19 protocols in mind, officials said.

During the celebration, Senior monks of the Ramakrishna Mission including President Swami Smaranananda and General Secretary Swami Suvirananda were also present through video-conferencing.
