Lucknow: The farmers’ killing at Lakhimpur Kheri in Uttar Pradesh was a “planned conspiracy” with intent to commit murder and not a case of death by negligence, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) said on Tuesday.
The SIT was probing the case in which Union Minister Ajay Mishra’s jailed son Ashish Mishra is the main accused.
The cops probing the matter wrote to the judge that the charges of rash driving against Ashish Mishra and the others should be modified. They added that an attempt to murder charge and the charge of voluntarily causing hurt should be included, reported NDTV.
Ashish Mishra and the other accused are already facing murder and conspiracy charges.
As the ruling BJP gears up for Uttar Pradesh Assembly polls, the fresh development could spell huge trouble for the Union Minister of State for Home, Ajay Mishra, who has remained in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government despite calls getting louder for his ouster.
The minister met with his son in jail on Tuesday.
