Lucknow: A Lucknow court awarded a two-year jail term for Bollywood actor and Congress leader Raj Babbar in connection with alleged involvement in the assault of a polling officer.
The Actor-turned-politician was convicted for voluntarily causing hurt to deter a public servant from performing his duty and three other offences, reported PTI.
The court also imposed a penalty of ₹ 8,500 on Babbar. The polling officer had registered a First Information Report (FIR) against Babbar during an election in May 1996. The officer lodged the complaint at the Wazirganj police station in Lucknow. Raj Babbar, who then contested on a Samajwadi Party ticket, attended the hearing when the verdict was pronounced.
