New Delhi: The number of daily positive cases in the country reached the highest single-day rise ever since December 2020, and the state of Maharashtra accounted alone for around 63.21% followed by Kerala and Punjab. The Country recorded a total of 35,871 new infections.
As per reports from the Health Ministry, Maharashtra, Kerala, Punjab, Gujarat and Tamil Nadu continue to provide a surge in the rising number of positive cases. The report stated 79.54% of new cases emerged from these States.
A total of 172 deaths were reported in the last 24 hours and the fatality toll reached 1,59,216 whereas the active number of cases reached 2,52,364. Maharashtra saw the highest number of deaths, with 84, Punjab followed by 35 and Kerala with 13 in the past one day.
With a rapid rise in the cases, the Central Government has announced a word of caution for the States. The Government also stated that the pandemic has been advancing towards to Tier II, Tier III cities and rural areas.
The Government has provided its citizens with 3.7 crore doses of vaccines ever since the drive began on January 16th and more than 14 lakh doses were administered on a single day, on Wednesday.
