Kolkata: The BJP has launched a scathing attack on Trinamool Parliamentarian Mahua Moitra for her remarks on Goddess Kaali row. Leader of the Opposition Suvendu Adhikari and BJP state president Sukanta Majumdar have demanded her immediate arrest.
Complaints have been filed at various police stations in the state. As many as 56 complaints have been filed across the state. However, this controversy has spread beyond the state. Complaints were lodged in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh. Moitra has been charged with insulting religious sentiments.
“We have received a complaint against him from a local under Section 295 (a) of the Indian Penal Code. We are making arrangements to file an FIR,” Bhopal Crime Branch Deputy Commissioner of Police Amit Kumar was quoted as saying by the agencies.
BJP state president Sukanta Majumdar has sought the immediate arrest of the Krishnanagar MP. He sharply criticised Moitra’s tweet. “Mother Kali is not worshipped in the traditional religion as an alcohol and meat-eating goddess. Mother Kali has been revered by Hindus for centuries as a symbol of the destructive power of evil spirits. I demand the arrest of Mahua Moitra in connection with this statement about Mother Kali,” he said.
Opposition leader Adhikari also tweeted about this to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. “Hon’ble Chief Minister, when will you ask the Kolkata Police to issue a look-out notice against Mahua Maitra for insulting Maa Kali? Why do you and your party leaders make vulgar remarks only about Hindu deities?” he said.
However, before the BJP went all out against her, Moitra unleashed a warning to the saffron party. “I am telling all Sangh members that lying will not make you a better Hindu. I have never supported any movie or poster, I have never used the word smoking. I will advise you. You visit Maa Kali’s temple at Tarapith. See what kind of food and drink is given to Maa Kali there. Joy Maa Tara.”
