Kolkata: The Majerhat bridge in Kolkata is set for a final inspection by authorities of the state Public Works Department (PWD) on November 25. It is also learnt that on the same day, the date for the bridge to be made open to the public would be finalised.
A senior state government official has confirmed that the work is complete with load testing being carried out at the moment. Reportedly, both empty and loaded trucks were used in the load testing process to test the stability of the repaired structure as experts and engineers are said to have monitored all the aspects of the bridge.
“The final inspection of the bridge will be conducted on November 25 and it is expected that the date, when the bridge will be thrown open, may get decided soon after the final inspection,” said an official.
The stress and wind-bearing capacity of the bridge was also assessed by experts. The Majerhat bridge had collapsed two years ago on 4 September.
