Kolkata: Mamata Banerjee Cabinet’s two ministers — Firhad Hakim and Subrata Mukherjee — were picked by central security personnel from their residences just after 9 am. However, both ministers alleged that they were being arrested without proper sanction.
The Ministers, along with Kamarhati MLA Madan Mitra and former Kolkata Mayor Sovan Chatterjee, were taken to the CBI headquarters in Nizam Palace here this morning and are likely to be arrested in the Narada bribery case.
In a burgeoned West Bengal-Centre clash, the Chief Minister also arrived at the CBI office shortly after the arrests.
Trinamool Congress spokesperson alleged that Firhad Hakim was taken away by Central security personnel from his home just after 9 am as being arrested without proper sanction.
The Central forces also visited the Trinamool MLA Madan Mitra’s home and former Trinamool leader Sovan Chatterjee and took them to the Nizam Palace.
Chatterjee, Kolkata’s former mayor and senior minister, quit the TMC in 2019 and joined the BJP but he quit the saffron party also in March 2021.
Earlier, Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar had sanctioned CBI investigations against the four.
It is learnt that the CBI will present a chargesheet against them before a special court and could seek their custody. If not, then the four may have to go to police lock-up until bail is granted.
