New Delhi: Fugitive Indian businessman Mehul Choksi, who was arrested and jailed in Dominica since May 23 on account of illegal entry, was granted bail on Monday by a court on medical grounds.
It may be recalled that he had gone missing from Antigua and Barbuda, where he had been staying since 2018 following his escape from India. The 62-year-old is wanted in India in connection with the ₹ 13,500-crore Punjab National Bank fraud case. Choksi had alleged that his arrest was “dictated” by representatives of the Indian government. Choksi had filed a suit in the high court of the Dominica’s Roseau city and sough to quash the proceedings against him, reported local media.
