Mumbai: Mumbaikars Yohan Dotiwala & Aryaveer Pittie of American School of Bombay (ASB) BKC won the Rapid chess titles in the Dubai Chess Meet held at World Trade Center organised by Outplay Chess in Dubai on Saturday.

Around 70 participants from across seven countries were in the fray for the top honours in this chess meet that saw the participation of 10 International FIDE-rated Chess players. Yohan and Aryaveer Pittie both ended on a tally of 2.5 points out of five games to lift the titles in their respective categories — Under-15 & Under-8 — respectively.

“Yohan is a dedicated player with a good work ethic and trains daily for 3-4 hours under my guidance,” said SMCA coach Durga Nagesh Guttula. Despite being in the ninth grade, Yohan balances chess and academics well.

Eight-year-old Aryaveer Pittie is a passionate chess player and is aggressive on the board. Aryaveer is preparing for the Singapore Under-8 chess championship slated to be held later this year.

Fellow Indians Myrah Sethi & Kridday Mayank Jain of Delhi also finished with runner-up trophies in the meet.
