Mumbai: Popular journalist Arnab Goswami has been arrested by the Mumbai police on Wednesday in relation to the suicide of an interior designer named Anvay Naik and his mother Kumud Naik in the year 2018.
In a note left by Naik and his mother, he had written a note where he had reportedly stated that the 47-year old Goswami and two others were to pay him Rs 5.4 crore. Naik chose to commit suicide since they refused to pay the money back.
It is also learnt that the construction of Republic TV studio was when this transaction is said to have taken place. Naik’s mother Kumud took her life after knowing about her son’s suicide.
A case was registered by Alibaug police at that time but was subsequently closed down in 2019 by Raigad police.
The Maharashtra government this year initiated a fresh probe by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in this case.
