Lucknow: A BJP Member of Legislative Assembly in Uttar Pradesh defended his hate speech, full of anti-Muslim slurs, that went viral in the mid of the Assembly polls.
Raghvendra Singh was heard saying in a video that if he gets re-elected, Muslims would switch allegiance from skull caps to “tilak”.
Faced with a huge backlash for his outrageous remarks, the Domariyaganj MLA said on Monday that he had meant it as a “conditional speech” to fittingly counter what he called “Islamic terrorism”.
“When there were Islamic terrorists here, Hindus were forced to wear gol topis (skull caps). I said ‘conditional’. I am ready to sacrifice anything for Hindu pride. I meant that if Muslims are trying everything they can to defeat me, I will not stay silent,” Raghvendra Singh was heard saying in the video.
Singh is in charge of Uttar Pradesh’s right-wing group Hindu Yuva Vahini. The group was founded by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.
According to the UP police, they have lodged a case after the video of his virulent campaign surfaced online.
