Kolkata: West Bengal Opposition leader Suvendu Adhikari was detained by the Kolkata Police on Tuesday on his way to the state secretariat Nabanna during BJP’s Nabanna Abhijan.
The Leader of the Opposition of the state was arrested and taken to Kolkata Police headquarters in Lalbazar. Suvendu Adhikari approached Calcutta High Court alleging that despite court order how he was illegally detained.
The saffron camp also raised the question on how Subhendu was detained without the permission of the High Court. Lawyer Subir Sanyal said on behalf of BJP, women BJP workers were lathi-charged during BJP’s Nabanna campaign. The police brutalised the democratic movement.
BJP has requested for speedy hearing of the application. The party also alleged that the police entered the BJP office and lathi-charged them. According to them, unwanted people entered the BJP office on Tuesday. Therefore, an application has been made to the High Court for immediate security arrangements at the BJP office.
In view of the plea, the Chief Justice ordered to give copies of the petition to all those connected with the case.
