Kolkata: The convoy of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) chief Jagat Prakash Nadda was attacked on Thursday by some miscreants who pelted stones at the cavalcade in Kolkata.
The party’s national general secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya’s car was badly damaged. The media vehicles were too targeted in the convoy.
This incident happened just as saffron party’s West Bengal Chief Dilip Ghosh had expressed apprehension due to the lack of security during Nadda’s planned campaign activites in the city.
The stone pelting took place while Nadda was on his way visit to Diamond Harbour. The distance between Kolkata and Diamond Harbour is 65kms. But the stretch between Rajarhat and Shirakol witnessed widespread protests by TMC workers over farm bills. However, soon the protests turned violent and they started pelting stones on the entire convoy.
Almost all the vehicles in the convoy belonging to BJP leaders, security personnel and media were damaged in the attack. Police could hardly be spotted throughout the route of the convoy, say eyewitnesses.
