Kolkata: The fight inside the karate fraternity of Bengal has spilled over outside the karate mat. Few members of West Bengal’s erstwhile karate body, Karate Association of Bengal (KAB), broke away to form a new organisation — All Bengal Sports Karate Do Association (ABSKA) — and immediately questioned the existence of the state body.
The new body organised a press conference at the Kolkata Press Club on Monday to spell out its grievances.
The fact that Bengal Olympic Association (BOA) recognises the KAB as one of its affiliates is what perturbs the newly formed body most.
“KAB is not affiliated with the Indian Olympic Association, so what basis it is recognised by the BOA? We were waiting for the BOA elections to conclude. Now we will request BOA’s new president Swapan Banerjee to disaffiliate KAB,” said a member of the ABSKA.
