Mumbai: Shweta Tripathi Sharma who was seen as ‘Golu’ in the web-series ‘Mirzapur’, will be playing a major role beside Ali Fazal in season 2.
The second season of Mirzapur is all set to be released on October 23, on the OTT platform- Amazon Prime Video. Shweta played the character of Golu that had an impression of a docile and intelligent woman, but in the trailer of the upcoming season she has been seen as courageous and fighter practising her shooting skills with Ali and Harshita Gaur.
Shweta spoke about the transformation of her character and gives all the credit to ‘Munna’ which is played by Divyendu Sharma as he killed her loved ones in the previous season.
She said, “Like Golu (in Season 1), she was a happy-go-lucky girl who loved books, poetry but if you choke someone in such situations, they are going to retaliate in some form. I hope that when people watch Mirzapur, they see that side as well,” was quoted as saying by The Indian Express.
The first season of Mirzapur showed tremendous violence which will also enhance the upcoming season too. It could be said that the success of the first season of Mirzapur had set a benchmark to follow.
“When Sacred Games released, I really think they raised the bar and when one show creates that benchmark, everyone feels like they need to up their game. So if Mirzapur does the same thing, that makes us very happy” Shweta shared.
Also, the show respects its female characters and give them equal weightage according to the story. They are not present to give a mere ‘love-angle’.
Shweta said on this that she would not have taken up this role if she felt that she “could not do justice to the part, or if the part wasn’t doing justice to us.”
“No matter what we do, screen time, of course, is important but what’s more important is that what we are doing with the time that we are getting on screen,” Shweta added.
Mirzapur season 2 will be streaming on Amazon Prime Video from October 23.
