Mumbai: Actor Sonu Sood has refuted any wrong doing in response to allegations that his firm and associates have indulged in tax evasion worth over Rs 20 crore, adding that not a single penny has reached his account.
Speaking to the media for the first time after the charges heaped on him, Sonu was quoted by ANI saying, “We’re teaching students across the country. If any government calls me, I’m there for them. In my foundation, the maximum funds we get is through my endorsements fee and it takes time to spend them. Not even a single penny has come to my account.”
Sonu was at the forefront of rehabilitation work during the pandemic which earned him accolades from several quarters.
There were stories doing the rounds that the Income-Tax surveys were ‘instructed’ by the union government led by BJP, after Sonu was roped in by the AAP government in Delhi for a campaign to promote education. In what could be called a direct rebuttal to such conjectures, Sonu said, “Everything is in process and in front of everyone. We’ve given all details to everyone. They’ll do their job and I’ll do mine. I’ll even become a brand ambassador if you call me in Rajasthan, Gujarat, Punjab.”
Income-Tax officials had conducted close to 30 surveys at office premises of the actor in Mumbai, Lucknow and other places.
