Bhubaneswar: A massive fire broke out with a loud explosion at a petrol pump near Raj Bhavan at Bhubaneswar, Odisha on Wednesday.
According to sources, eight people have been injured due to the explosion. The condition of two are critical and they have been sent to Srirama Chandra Bhanja (SCB) Medical College and hospital in Cuttack, said LD Sahu, director of Capital Hospital. The rest of them are also being treated there.
The sudden fire at the petrol pump created panic among the locals and the passersby near the Raj Bhavan area. Also, few spectators said that initially, a fuel tanker caught fire which eventually spread and turned into a massive explosion.
“As many as three to four fire tenders have been pressed into service to douse the flame at the spot following the explosion,” DCP Fire, Ramesh Chandra Majhi was quoted as saying by India Today.
It is said that the explosion was so powerful that it wrenched a portion of the roof of the petrol pump and also destroyed the vehicles parked nearby.

As per reports, there were three tankers present at the spot — petrol, diesel and CNG. It is said that the fire started from the CNG tanker.
Police Commissioner Sudhanshu Sarangi said, “Though the official figure regarding the casualties is yet to be known, several persons have suffered serious injuries.”
The police have cordoned off the area between the Raj Bhavan and Capital Hospital. They have also advised people to stay away from the affected spot.
