Omicron Cases Surge To 101 In India; Health Ministry Issues Warning

New Delhi: The Union Health Ministry has warned the people after the Omicron cases leapt to 101 spanning 11 states across India.

Health Ministry’s joint secretary, Luv Agarwal, issued caution and asked people to stay vigilant in these trying times. “There are 101 Omicron cases across 11 states in the country,” the joint secretary, Health Ministry, was quoted as saying by news agency ANI.

The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) DG Dr Balram Bhargava suggested against travelling now. “This is the time to avoid non-essential travel, mass gatherings and it is very important to observe low-intensity festivities,” Dr Bhargava said on the emergence of the Omicron variant.

Agarwal gave the date on COVID-19 infections across the country. “New daily cases were recorded below 10,000 for the past 20 days. The case positivity for the last 1 week was 0.65%. Currently, Kerala contributes 40.31% to the total number of active cases in the country,” Agarwal said.

The Omicron variant has been reported in 91 countries in the world.
