New Delhi: Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan said that a total of 358 Omicron cases were confirmed in 17 States and Union Territories of India, while the number of recoveries stood at 114.
“The top five states with the highest number of active cases, at the moment, are Kerala, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal and Karnataka,” Bhushan was quoted as saying by news agency ANI.
The government said that the Covid-19 case positivity rate in Kerala and Mizoram is much higher than the national average, which is a cause for concern. The Centre warned that that the world is witnessing the fourth surge of Covid-19 and India must be on guard.
“GOI has very clearly articulated the position that we would be governed with science & scientific evidence on deciding on the need & timing for additional doses & for lowering the age of vaccination,” Bhushan said.
In view of surging Omicron cases, the government appealed to the private health sector to be ready to play an important role in managing the pandemic.
