Kolkata: The stage is set! The Sourav Ganguly biopic will roll soon. But the question doing the rounds is: Who will essay the Prince of Calcutta on screen? There are strong speculations that either Hrithik Roshan or Ranbir Kapoor would be cast in the titular role. Ganguly had once said he would love Hrithik to play him in his biopic. However, nothing has been confirmed yet. Ranbir, no doubt, is a favourite but having already starred in the Sanjay Dutt biopic, would he agree to don the greasepaint for a real-life character yet again? Neither could Ranveer Singh, who plays World Cup-winning captain Kapil Dev in ’83. But hold on guys! There are others who would fit in easily. Here’s a look:
Shahid Kapoor: The versatile actor could be the ideal choice – he has the height, looks and of course, the athletic physique of a sportsman. Shahid is no novice when it comes to wielding the willow on screen – Dil Bole Hadippa and the yet-to-be released Jersey, but he would certainly not mind, if he is asked to play Ganguly. Just imagine, a shirtless Shahid waving his India shirt at the Lord’s balcony – it just couldn’t get better. And if you have seen Jab We Met, the bespectacled look would remind you of Dada off the field.
Kartik Aaryan: Now, coming to this actor hailing from Madhya Pradesh, much like Dada, he is a fighter who is slowly and steadily making his way up amid the rampant nepotism prevalent in the industry. Kartik within a short span, has made a mark and is in for a long run. Kartik is a charmer – a la Ganguly and his smile kills. Not only is he adept in front of the camera, he can also get into the skin of any character with aplomb. Luv Ranjan under whose banner, Luv Films, the biopic will be made, can give him a look-in and Kartik wouldn’t let us down.
Ayushmann Khurrana: To call him multifaceted would be an understatement. The Chandigarh guy has the potential to do justice to an array of characters under the Sun. He is suave and articulate and his face exudes an air of innocence coupled with exuberance – Ayushmann fufills all the criteria, a filmmaker would be looking for while envisaging the flamboyant former Indian cricket captain. Worth a thought, guys!
IF NOT THESE THREE, THEN…
Could it be Vicky Kaushal or Arjun Kapoor? Without sounding racist, Vicky may come a cropper in the audition because of his complexion. And Arjun has all the prerequisites but he would have to shed those extra kilos within a short span and his non-bearded look may not strike a chord with the audiences. Hey, what about Sidharth Malhotra? Guys, the Shershaah actor is brimming with confidence and if offered, would he turn his back?
The all-important name would be divulged soon, so hold your breath. You never know, a surprise could spring up out of nowhere. But haven’t we given you plenty to ponder over?
