Chandigarh: The air of dissent was somewhat palpable, but now it’s out in the open in Punjab. According to media reports, five Congress ministers and close to twenty four MLAs have declared a rebellion against CM Amarinder Singh stating they no longer trust the veteran leader.
The rebels also met CM’s bete noire and state Congress chief Navjot Singh Sidhu to air their grievances. A five-member delegation comprising sulking leaders will meet Congress president Sonia Gandhi soon.
The dissenters are of the view that the government has failed on several fronts and it is impossible to win the state polls under the CM’s leadership.
The Congress high command, already gasping for respite following intra-party squabbles in Chhattisgarh (warring CM and senior cabinet minister met Rahul Gandhi today), Rajasthan, Karnataka and some other states, has a daunting task in hand to quell the revolt in Punjab.
