New Delhi: The Prime Minister’s Citizens Assistance and Relief in Emergency Situation (PM CARES) Fund, which was formed to combat the COVID-19 situation, received Rs 3,076 crore as donations from India and abroad within the first five days of its establishment. It was published in the audit report published on the PM CARES Fund’s official website on Wednesday.
According to the audit report posted on the PM CARES website, the final balance of the bank account which was linked to the PM CARES Fund was Rs 30,76,62,58,096. The donations which were received after March has not been revealed yet.
The announcement was made after several objections by opposition parties. Numerous petitions were filed in the court to reveal the data and seeking transparency in PM CARES Fund that was set up to fight the battle against the novel coronavirus with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other top ministers of the government as it’s trustees.
The trust was set up with a total collection of Rs. 2,25,000 in the beginning. After the announcement was made about its establishment, various celebrities, politicians, Member of Parliaments (MPs), government officials and people from across the country as well as abroad, came forward and donated the public charitable trust.
It was also announced by the government that Rs 3,000 crore was distributed in May to procure ‘Made In India’ ventilators for the coronavirus patients across the country.
The Nagpur High Court dismissed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) last week, seeking the declaration of the funds which was received by the PM CARES fund.
The division bench of Justices Sunil Shukre and Anil Kilor also noted that the primary objective of the trust is to ensure its proper utilisation.
