Darjeeling: The seventh edition of the Darjeeling Hill Marathon organised by the Darjeeling Police witnessed an overwhelming participation of over 2000 runners from all over the states, and neighbouring Sikkim, UP, Bihar, Maharashtra and other places.
The marathon with two sections of 21.1km and 10 km runs began and ended at Darjeeling’s Chowrasta and was divided into six categories — Below 45 Male/female, Above 45 Male/female and Police Male/Female.
Cash prizes of Rs 1 lakh, Rs 50,000 and Rs 25,000 and prize of Rs 25,000, Rs 15,000 and Rs 10,000 have been reserved for the top three of the 21.1 km and 10 km runs respectively.
The theme for this year was “Time to R-Unlock”. Milind Soman, the ambassador of the November 22 marathon, is India’s supermodel, actor, producer and one of the prominent fitness enthusiast in the country and became the first person to register his name for the Marathon.
The country’s most-loved singer, composer, lyricist Kailash Kher and his band Kailasa performed live during the event and was also the face of the marathon.
