Mohali: Ravindra Jadeja achieved an enormous feat with a career-best unbeaten knock of 175 runs in the first innings of the first Test against Sri Lanka at the Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) Stadium here on Saturday.
Jadeja bettered Kapil Dev’s long-standing record for the highest score by an Indian coming in to bat at No.7 or below in Test matches. Kapil held the record for 35 years after he scored 163 batting at No.7 against Sri Lanka in Kanpur in December 1986.
Jadeja was batting on 175 and Shami on 20 when captain Rohit Sharma chose to declare the Indian innings at 574 for 8. In reply, Sri Lanka were reeling at 108 for 4 trailing by 466 runs at close on Day Two.
